What makes Shamrock Tutoring's tuition so effective?
There are many reasons why Shamrock Tutoring Centres stand out. Firstly, the programme is based on the NZ curriculum so you know your child is working on the same things they are at school, and specialises in Primary and Intermediate School Levels. The Programme is effective at accelerating the student's skill in reading, quickly bringing them up to age-appropriate level.

How do the Individualised programmes work?
One of the reasons the Shamrock Tutoring approach is so effective is that each student works on an individualised programme, and is designed to accelerate you child's skill in reading, writing and spelling and bring them up to age-appropriate level.

An immediate benefit for each child appreciates that they are not alone in their need for extra support and tutoring. This is a great confidence-builder for children, especially for those who have begun to feel isolated in their struggle to understand a certain topic.

Each lesson lasts for 60 minutes, during which time students are fully occupied with a tutor. They complete a variety of tasks including written work, spelling and, games based on their chosen book. All materials are provided. Students only have to bring the study book each week everything else is provided.

When can my child start?
Due to our personalised programmes, we can accept students continously throughout the term.  There is no need to wait until the next term starts.  It's never too late to start!

Do you cover other subjects?
Shamrock Tutoring specialises in Reading, with carefully prepared activities with another medium (writing and spelling) with which they practise and extend skills learned while reading.

What do we have to bring to the lessons?
Nothing, everything is provided. The Home Contact Book must be bought along each week.

Do you give homework? How much?
No. (Unless parents specifically ask for it) Remember, most students already have plenty of homework from school! We don't want to put students off by adding to what is often an already heavy homework load.

What if my child misses a lesson?
We will try to give a makeup lesson. We do currently have a waiting list so this can be difficult to do.

How did Shamrock Tutoring begin?
Shamrock Tutoring began in 2008 when Cath Holcroft saw a opportunity to focus specifically on Reading Tuition. Cath has a passion for reading and believes that Reading and Writing are powerful tools for learning.

Cath also has International Home-stay Students which has developed an interest in English as a Second Language and enjoys teaching English as well as learning about her International Students own culture and language.

"Knowledge is Power" Cath says, "and Reading is the most important skill we can learn - in Primary School, Secondary School, Tertiary learning, and even in day-to-day activities, such as reading and completing forms... to... reading the newspaper.

She has set up the business at home and is pleased to be able to spend more time with her own three children.
